“Faith”
All Jews were stripped of their rights.
Marched into these barracks;
Too much yelling and commanding.
Halt Jew,
Open up, Poldek!
Infants were being ripped in half by their legs,
People got beat if they did not do what was said.

Faith.
I swallowed the diamonds each time they checked my mouth,
I know Edith is alive,
We’ve got enough food to stay down here a couple of days,

Faith.
I was struggling to survive.
The work was too hard,
I did not want to get up some days.
Hitler lead us to doing horrible things.
Everything was ready here, so 15 or 16 people could hide.
There was no getting out of going to the camps,
We were all going no matter what.

Faith.
That was the last time I saw my father.
I saw the tear fall down his cheek.
My sister was gone.
Everything was gone.
This is terrible.

We will be found.
We will be saved.
This will end.

Rationale:

Those who were involved in the Holocaust did not have much. The only thing they had was their faith. So many people were murdered. To hear some of the things the survivors said, could make ones’ heart break. They didn’t know whether their families were dead or alive, whether their homes were destroyed or not, and many other tragic things. If they did not keep the faith, they would have gone down with the rest who passed. That is what made them different, they refused to give up.
